Remembering Dr. David Koch: A Life Well Lived in Chiropractic
The chiropractic community is mourning the loss of Dr. David Koch, a respected chiropractor, educator, philosopher, and mentor whose work shaped generations of doctors.
For many Life University students, Dr. Koch was more than a professor. He was one of the first people to introduce us to the deeper history and philosophy of chiropractic. He welcomed us as fledgling chiropractors with joy, patience, and real encouragement. You could feel how much he believed in the next generation of the profession.
Dr. Koch lived chiropractic. He taught it, practiced it, defended it, and helped students understand that there was something deeper behind the adjustment. His work in chiropractic philosophy, including his teachings on vitalism and Innate Intelligence, left a lasting impression on the profession and on the students who had the privilege of learning from him.
Throughout his career, Dr. Koch served as a professor at Life University and held several leadership roles at Sherman College of Chiropractic, including president. He also practiced for many years in Spartanburg, South Carolina. His career reflected a deep commitment to chiropractic education, mentorship, clinical practice, and the preservation of chiropractic philosophy.
At ChiroJunky, we also honor the way Dr. Koch and his wife, Rebecca Koch, championed diversity and created space for more people to feel seen within chiropractic. That kind of support matters. It mattered then, and it still matters now.
Dr. Koch lived well. He poured into people, shaped minds, and leaves behind a legacy that will continue through the many chiropractors he taught, encouraged, and inspired.
A celebration of life service for Dr. David Koch will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at 12:00 PM on Life University’s campus in Riekman 127. The service information was shared on Facebook by his wife, Rebecca Koch.
