Your Guide to Spinal Decompression.

Nonsurgical Spinal Decompression in Atlanta

If you’re exploring options for neck or back discomfort, understanding the treatment is an important first step. Dr. Magen will help you understand what decompression involves and whether it has a role in your care.

What Is Spinal Decompression?

Nonsurgical spinal decompression is a form of mechanical traction. Equipment applies a controlled pulling force to a selected region of the spine, sometimes alternating between pulling and relaxation.

Positioning, force, and session settings are selected for the individual. This is different from surgical decompression, which involves an operation.

Why Might It Be Considered?

The purpose is to apply a temporary mechanical stretch and assess whether it changes your symptoms or comfort. Dr. Magen reviews your examination, health history, and any relevant imaging before discussing whether a trial is appropriate. Having a disc diagnosis or sciatica does not automatically mean decompression is the right treatment. Any recommendation should have a clear purpose, with your response reassessed rather than assuming more sessions are always better.

What Does It Feel Like?

You may feel a gradual pulling or stretching sensation. You remain able to communicate throughout treatment, and settings can be adjusted or the session stopped if symptoms worsen.
